An Evening of Vibes is a curated journey through the sonic evolution of the vibraphone, one of the most evocative yet under-explored instruments in the jazz tradition. While audiences are often familiar with the saxophone or piano, the vibraphone offers a unique intersection of percussion, harmony and lyricism. This program bridges that gap, blending a high-level performance with an educational narrative that traces the lineage of the instrument’s pioneers; from the rhythmic drive of Lionel Hampton and the soulful phrasing of Milt Jackson to the four-mallet harmonic innovations of Gary Burton. The show will feature the music of Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Steve Swallow, Cal Tjader, Ray Brown and original music by Brandon Mitchell.
